Birthday Break and Events in Motion

Hello,

I had meant to write this post earlier but it has been a hectic time. Mostly in a good way but with a fair amount of stress involved. I took off work for Thursday and Friday because it was my birthday. Nick came up on a bus and we had a great time.  Some family friends gathered on the patio and there was delicious food and love and caring. *and realtors and roommates calling about apartments* One of my bosses has a cake business on the side and surprised me with a delicious cake. It was marble cake with buttercream frosting and raspberries and chocolate ganache filling. Needless to say, the leftovers are gone.

The next day, I took Nick on a date to the opera. We made a picnic lunch and ate it before the opera started. Then, we were chased by a baby elephant! They are the work of a local artist and they never fail to make me smile. The opera itself was spectacular. I'm so glad that I was able to get extremely discounted tickets for it. Aida, I had never seen it before. It was so lovely, the singing, the everything.

Back to the apartment search for a moment. I kept having to leave my birthday party to talk to people about the apartment search the lease and documentation. I'm surprised they didn't want a DNA sample. Note to self: why did I decide to live in NYC? However, as of today, we have a lease on a lovely 4 bedroom and 2 bathroom place. Of course, we ended up paying a broker fee and lots of other money things. I have been working five jobs and I still don't know if I will make enough money to pay for my first semester of rent and living expenses. People who have parents paying for your living expenses: you are quite lucky. I've been freaking out about growing up and being responsible. I went to the dentist yesterday and paid for it myself. I still need to find a job (or five) for the year so I can continue to pay rent. Ugh ugh ugh. If anyone has any tips on how to live frugally (which I already do) or knows of people hiring in NYC please let me know.

I had a good two day break and and am back to work. Today has been a slow day at my retail job so I've been feeling useless. My boss came in and told me to take a nap. Benefits of a day this slow include that I wrote a few of you letters. Keep an eye on the mailboxes folks! Hoping your week is off to a good start.
